The Orthopedic Foundation for Animals is an organization that keeps a database of health testing along with funding research. We have also participated in university studies by submitting DNA samples.
From our perspective raising puppies is more an art than a strict adherence to schedule. Having raised the same variety for so many years we respect that all litters are not the same. The goal is to expose puppies to as much as possible while not over stressing or taking unnecessary health risks. Puppies are raised in my home and get used to the noises and commotion. Being raised in the home allows socialization to start at day one. Every day they are handled and grooming starts within days of being born with nails being trimmed.
If you are interested in a puppy, we keep multiple lists depending on what the goal for the puppy is. Companionship, Agility, Service, Obedience, Conformation are all areas that our dogs have excelled at. Each job will lend itself to a little different type and temperament. We also keep a list of desired sex and color; we only have Black and Brown.

Puppy Buyer Questions
Are your blacks real black? Yes! I have to take pictures of the puppies outside, it’s very difficult to get any detail unless the lighting is very good. Even on an overcast day the pictures don’t show up. I also don’t dye my show dogs. What you see is what you get.
Have puppies been socialized with people? Yes! The puppies grow up in a family environment and all family members or anybody that stops by is required to wash their hands and hold a puppy. If one is showing to have an issue with being handled, then extra attention is given.
Have puppies been socialized with other dogs? Yes! This typically happens after first round of shots. I really like keeping the moms around even after they are done nursing. Moms are very good about correcting bad behavior. I will also let some of the other adults around the puppies it’s good exercise for both. Sometimes puppies will get into the big yard, and I just keep a close eye for any issues.
Have puppies been socialized with household noises? Yes! Puppies spend the first weeks in the living room in a puppy pen. I make it a point to leave the TV on just for the noise exposure. We also live in the middle of town on a fairly busy road, there are big trucks and loud motorcycle that pass by. Once puppies get their first shots they are moved out to the poodle room. I keep them together with their litter mates, not too many changes at once. The poodle room is adjacent to the cities fire department training facility. Which typically has some sort of noise going on, whether it be 3 trucks running pumps and blasting water against a steel structure or the starting of demo saws at 7am. Yes, I’m a little salty but the exposure is good for the puppies. Oh, there is also a carwash with its array of sounds. I will also but on YouTube videos that I recorded of dog show noises.

Have the puppies started potty training? Yes! As soon as the puppies are able to escape the first thing I ask of them is to good outside. I don’t let them go on the grass until first shots. Every time they are taken out first task is potting outside.
Have the puppies started crate training? Yes! I keep the puppies together in a puppy pen until 12 weeks or so then I’ll put them in individual crates. Also, part of them moving to the poodle room is that no amount of crying is going to get a response. They will learn quickly that crying in a crate doesn’t get a response. Even though all this effort is put in, no guaranties, different environments can get different responses.
Do the puppies sleep through the night? They don’t have an option; this one is a nonnegotiable for me. They typically will quiet down after a few minutes. If one isn’t I’ll give it a look over for health issues.
What is the expected size when they reach adulthood? This depends on the breeding. Sometimes we’ll get 11″ – 13″. In our lines are toys out of Russia and depending on the breeding it will show up. Typically, around 15″ we are always trying to keep them in a 14″-15″ range. Dogs are measured at the shoulders or withers. More precisely the tallest point of the dogs back where the neck meets the back. Ask about the individual litter. I’ll take measurements at 8 weeks and that will give me an idea of adult size.
When do you start grooming? Usually around 2 weeks they will get the first nail trim. Once they get to 4 weeks they will get their face, feet and tail shaved and every week after that. Typically, first bath will be around 8-10 weeks. If I have one that is struggling, they get extra exposure.
Do the puppies come micro chipped? Yes! I use the AKC Reunite microchip with the purchase of the puppy I will pay the enrollment fee.

Do you worm the puppies? Yes! I use Nemex 2 on weeks 2,3,4,6,8 and 10. I will also do a three-day treatment of Safe-Guard on week 11.
What type of registration comes with the puppies? I will register the puppies with the AKC under a limited registration. A limited registration allows the breeder to keep registration rights for offspring. With a limited registration, the puppy can compete in all dog sports except conformation.
Do the puppies come vaccinated? Yes! I will do DHPP starting at 8 weeks. Leptospirosis vaccine is a conversation to have with your veterinarian. I will also hold off on rabies vaccine for stacking reasons, I feel that vaccines should be spread apart. Also States and Municipalities may not have reciprocity for rabies vaccine. I would rather if possibly for the rabies vaccine to be given in the home state.
Do you offer transportation? Yes! If it is a puppy I will hand deliver to an airport close to you in the U.S. for the cost of the ticket. Adults that have outgrown the airlines restrictions will be ground transported at cost.
Can I come see the puppies and parents? Yes! Spend a weekend in New Orleans and come check out the family.
